

Family Programming for the American Market at National Harbor
Scheduled to open in 2012, the National Children’s Museum (NCM) will be a world-class cultural and educational center dedicated to engaging children and empowering them to make a difference. The mission of NCM is to inspire children to care about and improve the world. Through its interactive exhibits, online community, and unique national programs and partnerships, NCM is transforming the concept of a traditional museum by becoming a catalyst and forum for a national movement to inspire and empower kids to speak up, take action, and get engaged in their communities. Through 2012, NCM is operating as a Museum Without Walls,participating in a variety of community events and working with other arts and cultural organizations to develop creative partnerships that benefit kids and families.

“Animal Tales” –Check out critters, creatures, and children’s literary features! Come and dress up as your favorite animal and join us for story time from 10am to 11am, hosted by a Prince George’s County children’s librarian. Don’t miss the opportunity to make your own animal book, puppet, and clothespin bug.
September 27
“Puppet Friends” –Make friends with Eddy and Clare – The Kids on the Block puppets from The Mental Health Association of Prince George’s County – and with Lamont, Duane, LaKisha, and Rosa from Transformation Puppet & Story Works. Help them make tough decisions about bullies and feelings and create your own puppet friends throughout the day. Performances will take place at 11:30am and 12:30pm.

“NCM’s First Annual Jump OFF!”–You won't want to miss a minute of this very special afternoon of exhilarating exhibition performances by three nationally recognized jump rope teams, including the DC Retro Jumpers, Greenbelt S.I.T.Y. Stars, and Kangaroo Kids. Make your own custom jump rope and learn jumping rhymes and cool moves, like the heel exchange or the leg-over cross, from award-winning jumpers from 9am to 2pm. Performances will take place from 10am to 1:30pm.

“Panquility”–Panquility is a steel band ensemble based in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. As the name suggests, they produce a vibrant tranquil sound, but be careful they can "bring de bacchanal" when needed. Check out their website to hear a sample of their sound at www.panquility.com. Performance from 12:30pm to 2pm.
“Another Case of Election Fever”–In case you missed the bug last month…NCM invites all visitors to cast their votes for National Harbor's "Mayor of the Hour." Meet the leading candidates, register to vote, mark your choice on the ballot, and join in our victory parade when results are announced at 10:45am, noon, and 1:45pm. You are never too young (or too old) to start being an active citizen!

“Celebrate Gorgeous Prince George’s Day”– October 18 is the 6th Annual Gorgeous Prince George’s Day, a beautification event held county-wide! NCM will be celebrating the natural and cultural beauty of Prince George’s County with exciting and surprising activities for kids and families.
